About Me

Courtney Brewton-Financial Coach

I am extremely passionate about financial literacy and educating the masses. Most importantly I am driven to empower Black and Brown people especially about taking control over their personal finances. I am a Chicago native and FAMU (Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University) alumna. I earned my BS in Healthcare Management with a concentration in Accounting in 2015. Growing up on the southside of Chicago I was considered poor and financially illiterate. I knew nothing about savings, investing, budgeting, or the power of ownership. I left Chicago with debt and made several costly mistakes throughout my college years. I racked up credit card debt, student loan debt, and personal loan debt with no means of an executable plan to recover. If I had been equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to manage money effectively from the start, I could have avoided some financial hardships. Since then I have paid off $15,000 in credit card debt, paid off $10,000 in personal loans, grew my credit score from a measly 500 to the 700 club, purchased a home, created a pretty diverse stock portfolio, and set my children up with assets. I made it here through investing in myself. I sought out the information needed to not repeat my mistakes. I learned to manage my finances and make my money work for me. I’m here to lighten the load off your shoulders when it comes to having financial goals and plans. It is never too late to learn effective money management and investing skills, and I want everyone to be afforded that leg up.
